Joe Tucker

Executive Director

What role do you serve in the ministry?
As Executive Director, Joe runs the South Street team and leads with our community partners. Joe leads the Bike Shop program, as well as leading the full staff in direction, vision, and mission. 

What do you want people to know about you?
Joe has been with South Street for 10 years. He has lived in Summit Lake, South Akron, and Firestone Park. Joe’s wife Susan serves in the Faithful Servants Urgent Care Clinic. They have two boys and a dog. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
As you step towards South Street Ministries, go in faith, love and grace.

Lisa Crabbs

Administrative Director

What role do you serve in the ministry?
As one of the co-founders of this ministry, Lisa’s role has changed over the years. In the early days a lot of Lisa’s work involved raising her kids and loving their neighbors. Now as the Administrative Director, Lisa is responsible for the accounting, payroll and HR. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I have an awesome family and adore our three precious grandsons. I’m a Type One on the Enneagram which is why I thrive and enjoy managing people and projects. I love being a part of a team where all our gifting is encouraged and valued. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
Everyone has something to offer. Come with an open heart and be prepared to be blessed.

Donovan Harris

Reentry Services Founder

What role do you serve in the ministry?
As Reentry Director, Donovan visits institutions and helps people as they come home. Donovan oversees the Tuesday Reentry Meeting. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I believe in the power of the reentry community. Sometimes you have to come to the bottom of yourself to find the best of yourself. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
If you are a Reentry volunteer, prepare to have your heart-broken. Once you can deal with your wallet being stolen and come back in love, you’re ready to serve!

I serve the role that is needed in God’s community at this moment — serving the forgotten.

Don’t look for recognition — the work in silence is the strongest.

Youth Director

What role do you serve in the ministry?
I lead the youth programming Rich Kids Enrichment Program. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I’m married to an awesome woman! I love movies and music. Most of all, I love Jesus and the youth of Summit Lake.

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
Leave all expectations at the door. Come with and open mind and heart, and see what God will do in and through you.

Shawn Bonner

Director of Community Engagement

What role do you serve in the ministry?

Serving as Director of Community Engagement, Shawn assists our community in the readiness to change by directing our community to engage with each other as residents, organizations, and businesses.

What do you want people to know about you?

I love God and our community. We live for invisible paychecks

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?

Our past does not depict our future. We have the power to reinvent ourselves to be what, or whoever we want to be.

Chris Usner

Bike Shop Director

What role do you serve in the ministry?

Serving as Bike Director, Chris is helping remove transportation barriers by helping put kids and adults on bikes and keep them on bikes by helping empower them to maintenance the bike they earn.

What do you want people to know about you?

Though I am building bikes, my heart is to build the cyclist. Building the bike is just the method for character building.

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?

South Street offers a lot of opportunities to be involved, follow your passions and you will not be overwhelmed by the need or challenges.

David Shahata

Discipleship House Director

What role do you serve in the ministry?
I work with the different youth programs here at South Street Ministries. I help run Rich Kids Enrichment Program, Open Gym, and Bike Shop. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I love God, people, and sports. I have a passion to really invest into others. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
There’s a depth and richness here at South Street that I know drew me in, and truly blessed me. I wouldn’t be surprised if you found that same reality for yourself!

What role do you serve in the ministry?
I mentor youth and young adults ages 15-24 at South Street Ministries. I facilitate the Before I Self-Destruct program. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I am hard-working, and I am dedicated to changing the community. I am passionate about investing in the youth of Akron.

Riley Alchier

Education and Emotional Wellness Coordinator

What role do you serve in the ministry?

As the Youth Programs Administrative & Volunteerism Assistant, I assist in the planning and facilitating of the youth programs at South Street Ministries. I also assist the volunteer director in the recruiting and training of volunteers for the organization.

What do you want people to know about you?

Akron has always been my home, even when I have lived out of state. As a social worker-to-be, my goal is to serve my community by fighting for social justice, promoting the dignity and worth of our community members, and highlighting the importance of human relationships with integrity and competence.

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?

As an intern at South Street, one theme I regularly observed is that the organization highly values the community and the individuals who live here. The staff at South Street strives to empower community members in as many ways as possible.

What role do you serve in the ministry?

As Youth Program Coordinator, I help run the snacks, schedules, and spirit of RICH Kids, Open Gym, and more. I also lead and lean into the organizing of events, groups, partners and grants for youth programs.

What do you want people to know about you?

I love Akron and I love the youth in this city and in our Summit Lake community!
