What role do you serve in the ministry?
As the Youth Programs Administrative & Volunteerism Assistant, I assist in the planning and facilitating of the youth programs at South Street Ministries. I also assist the volunteer director in the recruiting and training of volunteers for the organization.
What do you want people to know about you?
Akron has always been my home, even when I have lived out of state. As a social worker-to-be, my goal is to serve my community by fighting for social justice, promoting the dignity and worth of our community members, and highlighting the importance of human relationships with integrity and competence.
What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
As an intern at South Street, one theme I regularly observed is that the organization highly values the community and the individuals who live here. The staff at South Street strives to empower community members in as many ways as possible.
Centering Quote:
“There will be times when standing alone feels too hard, too scary, and we’ll doubt our ability to make our way through the uncertainty. Someone, somewhere, will say, ‘Don’t do it. You don’t have what it takes to survive the wilderness.’ This is when you reach deep into your wild heart and remind yourself, ‘I am the wilderness.'”
