Joe Tucker

Executive Director

What role do you serve in the ministry?
As Executive Director, Joe runs the South Street team and leads with our community partners. Joe leads the Bike Shop program, as well as leading the full staff in direction, vision, and mission. 

What do you want people to know about you?
Joe has been with South Street for 10 years. He has lived in Summit Lake, South Akron, and Firestone Park. Joe’s wife Susan serves in the Faithful Servants Urgent Care Clinic. They have two boys and a dog. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
As you step towards South Street Ministries, go in faith, love and grace.

Lisa Crabbs

Administrative Director

What role do you serve in the ministry?
As one of the co-founders of this ministry, Lisa’s role has changed over the years. In the early days a lot of Lisa’s work involved raising her kids and loving their neighbors. Now as the Administrative Director, Lisa is responsible for the accounting, payroll and HR. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I have an awesome family and adore our three precious grandsons. I’m a Type One on the Enneagram which is why I thrive and enjoy managing people and projects. I love being a part of a team where all our gifting is encouraged and valued. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
Everyone has something to offer. Come with an open heart and be prepared to be blessed.

What role do you serve in the ministry?
Erin creates and support the ideas, events, people, and funds that sustain South Street Ministries 

What do you want people to know about you?
I am God’s child

Just come and see. Get in touch, try out an event, support our programs, pray for us. Show us how you live “thy neighbor” and we will plug you in!

Jocelyn Grant

Youth & Education Director

What role do you serve in the ministry?
I recruit students for and lead the Rich Kids Enrichment Program. I redeveloped and relaunched our girls program, newly named #AdjustTheCrown; an empowerment program for young ladies 5th through 12th grade. I recruit and train volunteers for the entire organization. I am the Site Coordinator for South Street Interns. I am a liaison to area K-5 schools for South Street Ministries. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I work only to give my utmost for His highest. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
Humility and humanity should be forefront in your mind. Approach humbly, and see the image of God in everyone you meet in this community. Here at South Street, everything we do is for the families and community that we serve.

Youth Director

What role do you serve in the ministry?
I lead the youth programming Rich Kids Enrichment Program. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I’m married to an awesome woman! I love movies and music. Most of all, I love Jesus and the youth of Summit Lake.

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
Leave all expectations at the door. Come with and open mind and heart, and see what God will do in and through you.

David Shahata

What role do you serve in the ministry?
I work with the different youth programs here at South Street Ministries. I help run Rich Kids Enrichment Program, Open Gym, and Bike Shop. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I love God, people, and sports. I have a passion to really invest into others. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
There’s a depth and richness here at South Street that I know drew me in, and truly blessed me. I wouldn’t be surprised if you found that same reality for yourself!

Donovan Harris

Reentry Director

What role do you serve in the ministry?
As Reentry Director, Donovan visits institutions and helps people as they come home. Donovan oversees the Tuesday Reentry Meeting. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I believe in the power of the reentry community. Sometimes you have to come to the bottom of yourself to find the best of yourself. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
If you are a Reentry volunteer, prepare to have your heart-broken. Once you can deal with your wallet being stolen and come back in love, you’re ready to serve!

What role do you serve in the ministry?
Toni helps men and women return from prison, find work and housing, and work to restore their lives. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I am a mother, I am a grandmother. When I am not at South Street, I serve with Summit County Public Health. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
I love South Street. They are my family. I want people to know that if you become involved, you will be welcomed with open arms and become family too!

Gary Eckenrode

Front Porch Building Manager

What role do you serve in the ministry?
Gary makes sure the building is clean, in order, and safe for all people that come into the Front Porch. Gary also manages the booking of the Front Porch rentals and makes sure the rooms are set for any visitors. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I came to South Street Ministries in the hopes of getting a job. When I was hired, I found way more than just an employer, I found a family of people that care for you. Having spent 10 years in prison, South Street gave me a second chance. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
South Street reaches out and helps all people. They don’t consider anyone a ‘nobody.’ South Street has a loving and caring heart.

What role do you serve in the ministry?
Joe serves as the food coordinator, managing the Front Porch Café and also South Street’s catering. Joe is also very active in South Street Reentry Services. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I am a dedicated and hard worker that doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty and getting out in the mud. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
Working with South Street is a life changing experience. It gives me a great sense of pride to be part of such an impactful organization.

What role do you serve in the ministry?
Chrissy is a Front Porch Cafe waitress. She asks customers how they’re doing, then asks what they would like to eat. Chrissy runs the register as well, and brings in her own family to eat. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I am a go-getter. I’m a team-player, and I take my job very seriously. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
Do what you say you’re gonna do, when you say you’re gonna do it. The resources are here to help as long as you’re willing to get the job done.

What role do you serve in the ministry?
Luv is a waitress and cashier at the Front Porch Café. She makes customers feel welcomed–greeting them with a smile, making sure food is served, and that the customer is satisfied. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I’m a 35 year old, hard-working mother of 5. I was born in Akron and am a real tech-head. I also enjoy reading and helping others with a listening ear. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
South Street is a non-profit org — we thrive off the support of others in our community. We would urge anyone who loves helping others and seeing our community come together to support each other and help those who can’t help themselves.

What role do you serve in the ministry?
Sherri makes fresh baked goods for the Cafe and serves with a smile. Sherri makes everyone feel like a friend and family, and connects those that want help to South Street. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I am honest, friendly, and I don’t judge any individual. Every race, religion, and ability has the right to be treated in a respectful manner. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
If you can make a difference, the difference will make you!

What role do you serve in the ministry?
Jay preps the Café and makes the wraps for catering. Jay listens to people and gives advice to those who need it. Jay is part of the Café team and helps make good food for people who are hungry. 

What do you want people to know about you?
I’m a cool guy, hard worker, and good listener. I’ve been at the Front Porch Café for 3 years and been a part of South Street Ministries since I was 12 years old. I am a strong guy who has been through a lot, and I still keep my head high and stay focused. I am 24 years old and am God’s child. 

What words of wisdom do you have for people who want to get involved in South Street?
If you’re willing to get to know God more, willing to help communities and people, come and join us. Pray, pray, pray, and support us.

I am not perfect, but I treat life seriously. I am fun to be around and love to learn things.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. South Street will accept you as you are, ‘no need to front.’
